Music from the Asheville Ebel...

Hey, I forgot tell you guys y'all that my playing and music is in a movie...and...that movie got selected for the Sundance Film Festival...and...that movie got a Special Jury Prize, Dramatic Category, for the Spirit of Independence! Pretty cool...it's my first movie placement!!

The movie is titled Anywhere USA: The Movie and you should check out their website (click on the link to go there). Check out the director's notes, too. It's a pretty wild story how the film got made. It was filmed, or rather, video'd, entirely in Asheville using people off the street. No seasoned film actors anywhere to be seen.

When the director got the stunning word that the film was selected for Sundance, he had to go about clearing all the music used. He didn't have the time to get clearances on a couple pieces, so he called in a favor from Chris Rosser, who called me to replace a Kronos Quartet piece with a composition of our own. Cool. We called it the "Joe-nos Quartet." Chris replaced a marimba part with an electric piano part.

It's only fifty seconds, with about thirty seconds of me playing three violin/viola parts and Eliot Wadopian playing bowed bass. Chris Rosser plays the Wurlitzer Electric Piano.

Here's a clip:

Enjoy!

  2. Alright, I knew it would only take a couple seconds for the guy who coined "Late Night Spurts (Brothers With a Mission)" to trash my efforts at 'high' art!! Taladega Nights was already in distribution before they found out about me...

  3. I took the picture in my backyard, its Ebel Beer from Two Brothers Brewery (James & Jason Ebel) in Chicago. They used to sell it at Dans Liquor in Plover. The owner said he knew there were alot of Ebels in town so he knew it would sell.
The way I posted the picture was I went to set up my own blog (by mistake)and it let me put a picture. I went back and deleted the blog but it kept the picture. Not the technical answer you were looking for but it works.
That was "Late Night Spurts" AKA "Nocturnal Emissions"

  5. Yup its legit. I have no idea if they are related but I wanted to go down there with Jim and Jerome to find out. If it means free beer I'm sure I could find and ancestral link.
If I told you how to post a pic I'd have to kill you.
But what the heck...when you started your blog they gave you an option to choose a picture to insert. I inserted a picture, then went and deleted the blog and the picture magically appeared. Thats all I can tell you...its FM.
